As practicing dentist we sometimes see that patients get half the treatment done and don’t come back for the further appointments
The reasons for this can be

Many a times once the treatment is started, pain gets relieved and hence patient feels that there is no need for further treatment.

Sometimes medicine given can relieve the pain and feels that this is sufficient. However relief with medicines will always be temporary.

If you have decay in your tooth and you don’t get the filling done, it will progress further and you might need root canal treatment. If you leave the root canal treatment midway, then it can increase the infection in the tooth as well as spread to surrounding gums and bone.
Then you might have to rush in emergency to your dentist
Sometimes root canal is completed but patients don’t get crown done and then come with fractured tooth. Thus they lose tooth, money and time given for root canal.

If you leave your braces treatment midway, within some time the teeth will come back to their original position.
Sometimes patients get tooth cleaning done and leave the further procedure required for gums. It can eventually lead to loss of teeth.
Thus leaving aby dental treatment midway is dangerous and can cost you loss of tooth, more money and more time. Hence never leave any treatment midway and always get it completed as advised by your dentist.
